"This is the same trick in a new year, and the American people know better. We must protect our promise to America's seniors." WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (NY-28), Ranking Member of the House Rules Committee, today said that the budget released by Republican Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan would again slash investment in Medicare, while creating new, irresponsible tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. "This is the same trick in a new year, and the American people know better," said Slaughter. "Once again, the Republican Majority is attempting to shift costs to American seniors and telling them to fend for themselves. Imagine your parents or grandparents, and think about them having to negotiate with insurance companies with nothing more than a voucher. This is not what we promised seniors and this is not what I wish for future generations. To shift costs to America's poor and elderly in order to give wealthy Americans a tax cut worth $150,000 per year is fiscally and morally irresponsible." Slaughter spoke out last year on this same subject which is available here. PUBLISHED MARCH 20, 2012 |
